Det er første gang jeg har læst de ti bud på engelsk, og tak for det min kære ven.

Umiddelbart når jeg læser de ti bud, så opstår der en masse dybereliggende spørgsmål angående hvordan disse udsagn skal forstås.

Skal de forstås som noget fysisk, eller skal de forstås på et metafysisk plan?

Skal det forstås symbolsk eller skal det tages bogstaveligt?

Jeg tænker også på at det kunne være en hjælp, hvis de blev sat ind i en kontekst. Og at nogle af begreberne måske blev uddybet, alt efter hvordan du nu forstår budskabet.

Der er jo mange måder at fortolke det skrevne på, som vi tydeligvis har oplevet gennem menneskehedens historie.

Hvad er f.eks et idol?

Og hvad vil det sige ikke at slå ihjel?

Og hvad sker der hvis budene ikke overholdes?

For mig er det meget vigtig, at jeg motiveres af kærlighed og glæde, og ikke skyldfølelse og frygt.

Umiddelbart ser det ud som om det rent fysisk er umuligt ikke at slå ihjel? Rent fysisk er det efter min mening umuligt at overholde mange af budende. Men forstår jeg dem som noget metafysisk, så giver de meget mere mening for mig.

Men jeg tror de fleste mennesker fortolker budene som noget adfærdsmæssigt, og det er nok også her de fleste mennesker oplever de ikke rigtig kommer nogen vegne. Og her tænker jeg på at finde fred, glæde og frihed i deres sind.

Man kunne vel sige man skal læse og fortolke med hjertet. Det skulle umiddelbart være meget enkelt. Og så kunne man også sige at, "lad de som har øre hører", hvilket kunne forstås som, de som er villige til at lytte med hjertet, ik?

Ja, jeg har en forekærlighed for King James oversættelsen. Måske fordi den, som den eneste stammer fra “Textus Receptus” familien, og ikke fra katolske Sinai eller Alexandria manuskripter.
Desuden syntes jeg, at det klinger godt, Shakespere gamle engelsk.

De ti bud jeg citerede er ikke de ordrette bud som de blev overragt til Moses på Sinai Bjerget. Den oprindelige formulering kan du finde i 2. Mosebog 20: 2-17, og 5. Mosebog 5:6-21, hvor der der lidt mere kød på definitionerne. Jeg valgte at citere de ti bud fra det Nye Testamente fordi de ofte betragtes som et Gammel Testamenteligt levn, som blev naglet til korset, sammen med den Levitiske lovgivning (vedrørende templet og offersystemet.)

Med hensyn til fortolkning, så findes der et hint fra Mesterens egen mund:

“Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” Matt 5:27-28

Når vi bryder en af de ti bud, og det gør vi jo alle, så har vi dette smukke løfte at klamre os til:

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” 1 Joh 1:8-10

Jeg er helt enig med hensyn til budenes motiver. Hør hvad salmisten David siger:

“Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” Salm 1:1-2

“I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law [is] within my heart.” Salm 40:8

“Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. I [am] a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me.” Salm 119:18-19

“Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with [my] whole heart. Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.” Salm 119:34-35
